Wanted: recommendations

I've been shopping for a sewing machine, and I'm sooooooo confused. I want a machine like the old Singers that everyone of my generation's Mom had, i.e., a machine that was easy to use, uncomplicated, and took many a lickin' and kept on kickin'. Any suggestions?

you could try scouring thrift stores for a vintage kenmore or singer. if you want to go the new route, i've been very happy with my janome, and also got one for my SIL.

the boards and reviews at patternreview are chock full of information (it might overwhelm you, but a good place to start).

i just read your previous post. my janome (memory craft 3000) was about $800 10 years ago. the one i got for my SIL was under $400. so you certainly don't have spend a lot of money. DON'T get one of the 'school' singers that get advertised for cheap. they are junk.

Try ebay. You should be able to find something.

Ebay is probably your best bet at purchasing a vintage singer. Try browsing there to your heart's delight :)
